The majestic Blue Ridge Mountains are thought by scientists to be among the oldest mountain ranges in the world.

Yet, this area remains underrepresented in society, politics, and literature.

My work as a writer seeks to promote these mountains and its people.

To elevate this oft forgotten and overlooked corner of the world. To illuminate a region that has always shone bright.

What Cat Lost

Cathleen Rhodes is on top of the world, the ideal daughter, the honor student, the Ivy League shoo-in, and a rising senior in the most elite social circle at The Spence School in NYC. Perfection. One night changed her life forever. Landon is dead and Cat finds herself in an exile even she couldn’t fathom.

What Cat Lost, follows Cat from her life as a fashion forward prep school princess to the mountains of North Carolina where her parents send her to live and work on her grandmother’s farm. It is there that Cat meets Luke, a strikingly handsome farm boy that irritates Cat to no end. Yet somehow, this intriguing young man is able to teach Cat some truths that she didn’t learn on the Upper East Side. He teaches
her how to forgive herself, how to trust again, and ultimately how to love.

Young Adult Fiction

The Patchwork Princess

Phillipa Jane, aka Princess Pippa, is NOT your typical princess. This tree-climbing, corn shucking, Christmas-tree-farmer’s-daughter is nothing like the royalty in fairy tales. The Patchwork Princess explores a day in the life of Pippa, a feminine, yet fierce, young farm girl, who fancies herself a princess. With her crown of Queen Anne’s Lace (a regional wildflower) and a slice of cornbread, Pippa and her little brother rule over their dominion, a patch of farmland.

Chelsea Wilson Thayer's story was inspired by the life of her own family. The rhyme and rhythm of the story capture the exuberant character of young Pippa while the exquisite illustrations by Beth Snider capture the beauty and warmth of the Appalachian mountains. This timeless story is a tribute to those that call these mountains home.
